MORE than 3,700 vehicles were stopped by Lancashire Constabulary and 740 offences identified during two force wide policing operations targeting serious cross-border criminality from the Merseyside and Greater Manchester areas in December. On two days during the month Operation Vault launched check sites across Eastern, Pennine and Southern Divisions supported by hundreds of officers from across the county, including Roads Policing Units, Support Units and Neighbourhood Policing Teams. Twenty per cent of the vehicles stopped were found to have committed offences and penalties, from verbal warnings to prosecutions, were issued.
Twelve people were arrested for offences including motoring and drugs offences and disqualified driving, with 30 vehicles seized. Lancashire Constabulary’s Assistant Chief Constable and head of Specialist Operations Andy Cooke said: “Thousands of leaflets have been distributed to provide advice and feedback at the check sites has proven overwhelmingly supportive.”
